Selling is not only a job or profession but,it is an art which involves a great combination of knowledge, skills,efforts and strategies to sell the products and services in an influential manner. The work of a salesman is not as easy as it seems to be. It starts with a need to earn money, gradually it becomes a talent of a person and later on it turns a person into an experienced and successful salesman. There are so many examples of many successful people who started their journey as a salesperson. Indeed they faced so many ups and downs but in the last they achieved a real success. A good salesman should have so many qualities,let's try to discuss some
1. Polite and soft spoken : Speaking softly,gently and in mannered way can win the hearts of the listeners. Only some few softy and politely spoken words can win the battle without any bloodshed. Likewise so many typical situations can be handled with the art of good speaking skill. A salesperson has to deal with the people having different types of nature and attitudes. Some have angry nature, some are always in hurry,some are very choosy,some are too lazy and can't decide what they are looking or searching for. A good salesperson has to be very calm, speak softly and politely so that the clients or buyers can be attracted towards the particular salesman always. This quality is much helpful as most of the clients or customers used to give remarks and feedback generally, that is quite useful for the career success of a salesman.
2. Good looking : The body structure doesn't matter a lot but,good looking is a plus point for being a good salesman. Good looks attracts the people to be familiar more often. It's not necessary to be very fit,tall or very handsome but one should present himself in a tidy manner. Like neatly dressed,combed hair,polished shoes,trimmed nails,straight body while presenting, no laughter only smiling face etc. Most of the clients/customers are very concerning about to whom they are talking with,they are dealing with. Dealing with smiling face plays an important role in selling as it keeps the customer attached without any distraction. Therefore a smiling face increases the quality of good looking salesperson.
3. Good knowledge of product : Knowledge is the most important and effective part in the field of sales. Having a good knowledge of the product builds a confidence in the salesperson to deal very easily. Most of the clients and customers have so many questions related to the product and sometimes irrelevant too. In such situations a person having good knowledge of product can explain the specifications of the product which helps to stop the clients getting distracted. People used to compare first whatever they want to buy,knowledge of the own product as well as the other similar products can easily make the customer to choose one and this becomes an extra benefit for a good salesman.
4. Good listener : Dealing with so many customers or clients in a day makes little bored and dizzy. With this feeling a salesman can't handle more customers till the evening. Sometimes you don't even listen the customers about what they really want and what they are looking for. Always do remember to listen and understand the needs and demands of the customers for which they are going to pay. It really becomes very easy to sell the products or services,when you properly listen to them and definately it saves yours and customers time as well. In fact, the clients or customers also prefer to look and deal with the salesperson who listen them carefully and this is really an advantage for a good salesman.
5. Good and continuous learner : The world evolves very fast and the new changes,challenges,techniques,strategies are also increasing day by day. It has become very common in fact must to adapt and learn continuously about the newly launched products and services in the market. A continuous vigillance and observation is quite helpful to compare and sell the products and services accordingly to the customers. Good learning is one thing and continuous learning is the another one but,both are adjacent and very helpful in acquiring the knowledge of the products and services in which a salesperson is going to deal with more perfection. Moreover this really helps to give the comparisons among the products and services that make your customer or clients satisfied and ready to buy.
6. Punctuality and time managing : Being punctual in any field and managing the time properly is the sign of half success. Same in the field of sales,it is very necessary to be on time and manage it in a useful way. Wether you are doing office job or you are in the field job,you always should consider the time punctuality. Your timely presence at your office, Mall,showroom is quite adorable, likewise reaching to your clients on or before time is the very first impression that your clients always think and remember. A good salesman should also manage the time with the customers or clients accordingly and efficiently,inspite of having busy schedules,specifically in rush hours. Always set the meetings according to the ease and comfort of your clients,try to manage your time and not theirs to get the best outcome and response from them.
7. Good relation with customers : Always be friendly with your customers/clients and try to make good relations with them as they can give you a long term business with your humble behaviour. Try to talk more with your customers,help them to choose the best possible thing for them,as many times people become so much confused seeing the varieties of the products. Ask them about their health,about their family and some of their activities too. Firstly focus on your product or services then give them some good advices if they ask about the things which they can discuss with you. Take their contact numbers humbly and inform them about the newly launched products and services regularly. In other words, providing regular updates to your customers and clients is also a skill to make good relations with them and that is really very good for your sales too.
8. Good negotiating skills : Almost every customer or client use to bargain while buying and precisely its their right too. Before finalising a deal,customers always try to put their very best efforts to get the best prices and more often it turns into an argument or conflicts which is quite harmful.A salesperson should be a good negotiator too as the confirmation and completion of a deal depends upon the negotiation at last. It is a part of every sales business and every salesperson has to experience it. Negotiation is an important skill that helps both the salesperson and the client to come on a sound conclusion. In other words many typical and sophisticated issues are solved by a good negotiation and become a good remark for the salesman.
9. Positive attitude : Confronting and taking things with a positive attitude can help to achieve whatever you want. It is very important for a salesperson to take positive stances in all the situations wether good or bad. Your attitude defines your nature and your character too. A positive attitude makes the interactions very formal between the salesperson and the customer. Moreover it creates a mindset for the salesman to express the good human being inside him, that attracts more and more customers. Live life to the fullest,and focus on the positive. Your positive attitude always make you eager,attentive and energizing to console your customers and clients who can give you a good business. A good salesperson should always take positive stances to build more confidence between him/herself and the customers /clients.
10. Good relation with colleagues : A salesperson is not alone in his/her field,there are so many other salespeople doing the same job or running for their tasks. In other offices or job fields people only have to complete their task or stated work,but it is quite different in sales job. Here you have to face the competition too,because most of the time some specific targets are given to your colleagues and a commission is also set with it. Now a rivalry feeling arises among the colleagues to achieve the target before the other salesperson do it. A good salesperson should never try to make the other colleague down by using his/her leads or contact,or making fun of him/her in front of the customers. A good salesperson should always help and assist their colleagues and make a good relation with them always. If you are helping your colleagues today,tomorrow you will surely get the help from them. It also creates a good bonding and flourishes your relation with your colleagues.
11. Good relation with Boss : All the bosses are strict, arrogant,annoying etc, lest they are the Boss. May be some are quite typical but most of them are good too. Actually these bosses are your first teacher in the field of sales. Respecting them and having good relation with your boss enhances your capabilities and polishes your skills. It has been observed that many salesperson use to get help from their bosses when they get stuck in many situations. Obviously your boss has more experience and they are quite familiar with all the obstacles. A good salesman can acquire more and more knowledge and experience from his boss by making sound relationships with them.
12. Customers satisfaction : "Customer is always right". A very famous quote that one should remember in the field of sales. You have to make the sale according to the needs and requirements of the customer. Explain each and every part,clauses and points of your products and services. Do remember to provide the information about the incentives and discounts of the product before starting your presentation as it attracts the customers first. Don't confirm your deal unless the customer or your client is fully satisfied. Sometimes the customers just buy the things without getting proper knowledge of the products and services. After facing any little problem they just blame the salesperson that he/she didn't tell them or explain them about the products and services properly. A good salesperson should always put in his/her mind that the customers satisfaction is the first priority for any sale.
